Meet the Loggly Team

Charlie Oppenheimer

CEO

Charlie Oppenheimer

Charlie is Loggly’s CEO and Chief Enthusiasm Officer.  Charlie grew up in New York but headed west when Apple recruited him as a young pup.  Twenty years in Silicon Valley later, Charlie has been CEO of software companies Digital Fountain (acquired by Qualcomm) and Aptiva (acquired by Yahoo!).  A product builder and marketeer at heart, he loves to tell the story of how he turned his twin son’s birth into a product launch that was picked up by the New York Times. When not toppling trees, Charlie lives in Menlo Park with his wife and sons.

Jonathan Gifford

Founder and CSO

Jonathan Gifford

Jon Gifford is Loggly's Chief Search Officer and arch architect. Jon hails from either Australia or New Zealand depending on who's playing whom in rugby or cricket. A lifelong beard grower, Jon has written the same Lucene code twelve times in a row for various search related companies. While he's not spawning simulated annealing processes to find his reading glasses, or passing through an area without 3G, Jon resides in San Francisco with his partner Christina.

Jim Nisbet

VP of Engineering and CTO

Jim Nisbet

Jim is Loggly's VP of Engineering and CTO.  “Niz” as many have known him since high school, has logged many years as a software developer, engineering manager and technology leader.  He cut his teeth on operating system development at Stanford.  His first startup was DataTools (acq by BMC) that created database backup and management tools.  A few years later he started Tablus (acq by RSA) that produced award-winning data loss prevention solutions.  Jim loves the outdoors and lives in Menlo Park with his wife and two sons.

Dave Ewart

Director of Marketing and Revenue

Dave Ewart

Hailing from the 50th State, the only where beavers are non existent... Dave possesses a natural propensity to water. Similar to Hoover, Dave has few natural known predators but is highly allergic to poor customer experience, stodgy corporate marketing and inferior log analysis solutions. When Dave isn't building brand and demand he's racing triathlons, running ultramarathons and happily busy raising a few future Olympic athletes (or Marketers) with his wife Tracey in the newly crowned urban Beaver Capitol of California, San Francisco.

Leila Tudury

Director of Product Management

Leila Tudury

Leila is Loggly’s prodigious product manager.  Born in the Highlands of Scotland, she spent her formidable years in soCal.  A seasoned sysadmin, she now wrangles product into submission for developers.  When she’s not hard at work, you can find her playing beach volleyball to stay fit.  She can also be found running around with her husband David trying to catch their one year old daughter JJ in Oakland.

Gerry Smith

Senior Project Manager

Gerry Smith

As Project Manager at Loggly, Gerry's job is to make sure the trains run on time while staying on the rails to serve our 3,500+ customers with new features and releases. Gerry has managed technical people and projects for many years, across a range of technical domains, timezones and zipcodes. She’s worked for technology companies as well as universities, in Boston, Auckland NZ, San Antonio, and Silicon Valley. Early in her career (while the Pyramids were being erected) she even developed code for a living. When not scrutinizing schedules Gerry can be found hiking in the East Bay with her Silken Windhounds.

Brian Murphy

Senior Search Developer

Brian Murphy

Brian is Loggly's senior search developer. Brian wandered over the border from Ireland a few years back and ended up being the first employee at Splunk, where he hired other bearded developers and authored crude marketing tag lines. Like most Irishmen, Brian continues hacking on complex server code till the wee hours of the morning running on nothing but large quantities of Crabbie's ginger beer. Brian, and his red beard, resides in Dublin, Ireland with his wife RC.

Ivan Tam

Senior Developer

Ivan Tam

Ivan is Loggly's senior UI developer and minister of lulz. Ivan is a native of the Bay Area, and grew up on the classics like "Dancing Baby" and "All Your Base". He is widely believed to be the author of the "Good Times" virus, and oft consults his dog Chico about random animal facts. While he's not shopping for hipster graphic t-shirts with a skeleton theme, he spends his time riding around Emeryville, CA in a Cushman looking for parking with his wife Alana.

Philip O'Toole

Senior Developer

Philip O'Toole

Philip comes to us from Ireland, but if Silicon Valley was in Alabama, Philip would have moved to Alabama. Fortunately it's located in an even nicer place, but sometimes he does wonder what Tuscaloosa would have been like. Before Loggly he led a development team at Riverbed Technology, working on their Cloud Computing solutions. He also spent a few years at TiVo, beating embedded software into submission, so he knows all about the business end of an oscilloscope. He lives in San Francisco, and insists on living on bedrock.

Jason Pump

Senior Developer

Jason Pump

Jason has traveled and lived all over the world, England, France and Texas until settling in California. He is a bit hesitant to admit that he was born in New Jersey. He owns 14 peoples' souls and children, who clicked on his license agreement without reading it.  He scales things, and makes them fast. He claims people have spent 2,853 years reading emails he’s sent.  He has 72 million Atari 2600 screenshots and his youtube channel has 300,000 views.  He likes scotch, which makes him a perfect fit here.  When he’s not here, he’s living in the East Bay with his wife and their cat.

Greg Dunn

Senior Sysadmin

Greg Dunn

Greg grew up in Torrance and went to UC Riverside.  He is our opps guru and takes care of everything server related to keep things humming along smoothly.  When he’s not geeking out, he’s a rock star and moonlights with a bunch of bay area bands and plays for tips in dive bars all over the place.  Music is definitely his passion.  When he's not working or playing in a band, Greg can be found in San Rafael.

Michael Blume

Developer

Michael Blume

Mike Blume, Baratone, is a Python Developer here at Loggly. Even as a wee tike, Mike was fascinated with Silly Putty. A while later he graduated from UC Irvine with a degree in Physics. In 2008, while at NASA JPL, Mike was slated to maybe be considered for nomination to receive the Max Planck Medal in physics. Unfortunately the award was lost because it was so small. Mike resides in Berkeley where he hacks AI bots to daytrade Monster stock on the Nikkei.

Scott Griffin

Scott turns big log data into big business and heads up our business analytics department. Hailing from San Diego where a distinct abundance of good weather drove him north, Scott is a vehement snowboarder and general frozen water enthusiast. Scott has landed at Loggly as a Python tinkerer and analytics wrangler of big data. On the weekend Scott resides down the peninsula where he spends time with his lovely girlfriend and slightly above average puppy.

Brian Schroeder

Brian Schroeder

Brian (also known as Brain around here) is from Windsor, CA. He has some mad bar tending skills that he shows off at the office when we’ve all had a hard day.  He can play a little jazz and is part of band called The Emergency Jazz Club.  He is also quite the athlete, having won a bronze medal at the 2009 Bar Back Olympics put on by Fernet Branca.  We are hoping he can take the gold this year.  He resides in San Francisco and is currently single, ladies!

Hoover is a seasoned log management expert, and has been in the logging industry his entire life. When asked about the cost of wood nowadays, he was heard to mutter "I could give a good dam!".
